Nafplio
A city steeped in history, Nafplio offers a wealth of historical sites to explore. At the forefront is the Palamidi Fortress, a commanding structure that rises 216 meters above the city. This well-preserved Venetian-era castle includes the cell of Theodoros Kolokotronis and the Church of Saint Andrew. It is accessible by car from the eastern side, or you can ascend the renowned steps that begin at the Land Gate.
Nearby attractions include the archaeological site of Tiryns and the site of Mycenae, famous for the Lion Gate and its beehive tombs.
In addition to these historical sites, Nafplio is home to several prominent museums. The Archaeological Museum features artifacts from both prehistoric and historical periods. The Annex of the War Museum highlights the history of the Evelpidon Military Academy and local contributions to the Greek War of Independence. The Annex of the National Gallery displays significant works from the Greek Revolution.
